“I grew up in a small but supportive community where nothing was ever to much trouble and everyone pitched in to help each other. We readily welcomed visitors or new residents to the village, which just seemed to make the community even stronger.
These days that community spirit’s no different. For six years now I’ve been growing grapes and producing English wine, something I just couldn’t do without my neighbours who help me harvest the vines each year. And a few months ago we all got together and set up an arts society to put on music nights, art exhibitions and plays.
People have asked me over the years if I would ever leave Devon. You can guess my reply.”
